OUR FIRST WINTER ON THE BOAT

Originally, I wasn't going to add to the website through the winter.
But it's proving to be interesting, and I don't like to disappoint my public!
So there will be some random (or raving) jottings from time to time.
This will serve the dual purpose of keeping your interest on the boil,
and reminding me how to write a website, as I may well forget
if I don't do anything to it until March.

Since we got back to our mooring at Braunston after the Big Summer Cruise,
we've done a few mini cruises.
We've been down to Warwick for five nights
and also spent two nights out at Napton.
We've also been to Cyprus for two weeks........but not on the boat.

Thursday, November 27th
It was a very cold start to the day, our first real frost since we've been on the boat.
But we were very cosy on the boat.
We keep the Squirrel stove going twenty-four hours a day,
and supplement it with the central heating if necessary.
There was no water to be had at Braunston, all of the pipes were frozen,
and the powers that be had turned the supply off,
because pipes were bursting all over the marina.
So we had to go and find water, and, although there is a supply just outside the marina,
and it was working, we decided to make an afternoon of it
and went to Calcutt to fill up with water.
That was about five miles each way!
Which took about four hours altogether!
Living on the canal really is a very different way of life.
The scenery was a delight, rich russet and golden sunlight on the bare fields
and a kingfisher flew along with us for about a mile.

It was almost completely dark by the time we got back to the marina.

I went "down below" and put on all of the lights,
so that as we came past all of the moored boats we cut quite a dash!
We looked like an ocean going liner, lit up as it comes into port!
Quite a few people waved to us as we went by.
