BACK UP THE WEY

June 16th--22nd

Wednesday, 16th June
First we backed up to Godalming Wharf, just a few hundred yards, to fill up with water, and pump out the toilet.
That done, we set off back up the Wey and Godalming Navigation to its junction with the Thames.
It's a lovely waterway, and, if we weren't on a timetable to meet friends in Staines,
we may well have stayed longer. Next time!

We had lunch at the Parrot Inn, a pub which had been recommended to us by some boaters.
It was an excellent recommendation and we had a lovely lunch.
It was so hot we sat indoors! We're not complaining!
This reminds me that our byword on this cruise has been "Masn't Gwamble"
said in a very savern accent!
Trev was standing by the bus stop in Harlow and commented on the weather to a woman who was also waiting.
Her response was "Masn't gwamble. It's nice to see the san!" So now we masn't gwamble!
(Hope all my overseas readers can cope with that one!)

In the afternoon, we passed a boat called Judani. The last time we had seen it was in Braunston last April.
It's owners were amongst our very first visitors and had helped us down a bottle or two!
They said they were going to 'do' the K&A so we might meet up again.
Seems like everyone's doing the K&A this year.
Still, we masn't gwamble.........

We moored out in the country in a beautiful spot, just below Bowers Lock.
The only downside was the road noise.

Thursday, 17th June
Another lovely summer's day, though cooler. Towards the end of the day it grew quite cool.
We continued on to the end of the Wey, and moored just before the last lock.
We were ready to go back on to the Thames, to pick our friends up tomorrow afternoon.

Friday, 18th June
Today we went through the Thames Lock at the end of the Wey and back on to the Thames.
We went on up the Thames and in a couple of hours we were moored in Staines.
The mooring was right by the town centre, so we used the time to shop and browse,
and I got the film from the disposable camera developed
which the other boat had used to take pictures of us when we did the Thames Tideway.
The photographs are good and we're really pleased with them.
There is a great one of Liberty Belle right in front of the Houses of Parliament.

Our friends, Pat & Ross arrived at Staines railway station just before 5.00 p.m.
and, after a welcoming drink, we set off again, upstream.
We moored up at Runnymede, ready to do the sights tomorrow. It's happened again! On checking back ober earlier pages, I find the ending of this one has also disappeared. Since I have no odea what it said, we shall have to remain in the dark!
